It Happened One Summer Review

 Title: It Happened One Summer

Author: Tessa Bailey

Genre: Romance

Page Number: 385

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Summary: Piper Bellinger is fashionable and influential, and her reputation as a wild child means she is constantly being followed by paparazzi. An out-of-control rooftop lands Piper in jail and her rich step-father decided that was the final straw. He cuts her off and sends her and her sister Hannah to learn some responsibility by running their late father's dive bar in Westport, Washington. Piper has not been in Westport for long when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brenden Taggart, who thinks she will not last a week outside of Beverly Hills. Piper is determined to show her step-father, and the hot, grumpy, local, that she is more than a pretty face. However, it is a small town and Piper runs into Brenden everywhere she turns. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there is an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper does not want any distractions, especially a man who sails off with a dangerous job for weeks at a time. Yet as she begins to feel more at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the world she left behind is what she still wants.

Review: This is one of my favorite romance books of all time. I am rereading it and it still feels as though I am reading it for the first time. Piper is a bubbly, fun girl and most people mistake her for being a dumb blonde. However, she has so much depth and character growth you can't help but love her. The small-town feel of the book is wonderful to read and you feel as though you are in the town with the characters. Brenden is also perfect. He was cold at first but opened up to the idea of Piper and slowly started to love her. Their relationship developed nicely and it felt real. There were real complications and doubts, yet they still pulled through in the end. The side characters were funny and were very important to the story. I went through so many different emotions while reading and still remains one of my top five books ever read.
