Synopsis: Lover and daydreamer Liz Buxbaum had a crush on a boy named Micheal for as long as she can remember. He moved away before she could do anything about it. Now that he is back in town, Liz is determined to get him to notice her and hopefully have him ask her to prom, even if it means befriending Wes Bennett. Wes is the annoying and attractive next door neighbor who has been a pain to Liz since they were kids. Wes and Michael are friends which means Wes is Liz’s way in. However, as Wes and Liz begin to plot ways to get her noticed by Micheal, the
inevitable feelings begin to grow.Review: If you are looking for the romance book to end all romance books, this is the one for you. One thing about me is that I absolutely love romcoms and romance movies. My favorite movie ever is How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Each chapter of the book begins with a quote from a famous romcom. The main character Liz is so relatable to me because she is a romance movie fanatic just like me. The whole enemies to lovers and fake dating trope are done so well. We get to see Liz and Wes develop their relationship from “enemies” to friends to lovers. Another thing about me is that I LOVE Taylor Swift. There are multiple Taylor Swift references in the book as well as in the playlist of the book. I loved watching Wes fall in love with Liz and enjoy all the things she enjoys. Even thought their fake relationship was formed for Liz to get the attention of a guy she has a crush on, there is not a single moment where you are not rooting for Wes and Liz to get their happy ending. The high school feel of the book made everything so much more enjoyable and light-hearted.
Favorite Quote: "You look best when you're you."
Tropes :
- Enemies to lovers
- Second chance
- fake dating
- love triangle (mild)
- It's always been you
